Box score
The Lady Bucs tied in their annual Silver Cup Match against
cross-town rival The College of Charleston, with a final score of
2-2. The match is an annual meeting of the two schools who play
for a covenanted silver cup and bragging rights, rights that both
teams want and rarely share.
CSU came out strong with the first shot attempt of the game by
Caitlin Wesnesky only two minutes into the half, where CSU would
out-shoot their opponents 7-5. The first half was littered with
failed shot attempts and fouls by both teams. CSU showed great
momentum in the 10th minute of play when Wesnesky and Briana
Murphy were both in scoring position and both pumped hard shots
into the goal that were saved by The College.
The same scenario would happen again in the 20th minute of play
when Emma Mattsson, who had three shots on the night, would fire a
hard shot into the goal immediately following a save by The
College's Erin Smith. Brianna Murphy and Lindsey Trexler would
each follow in the 37th minute with consecutive shots that would be
stopped by Smith.
Charleston Southern would pull forward on the scoreboard early
in the second half with a goal by sophomore Michelle Dennis, set up
by a corner kick from Jen Vroman. Not to be outdone, The College
would respond with a goal of their own at the 58:28 mark, and less
than five minutes later with their second goal.
Down by one goal, senior leadership stepped up for the Lady Bucs
as Emma Mattsson scored the second CSU goal of game on an assist
from Sarah Catenacci. Regulation would end with a score of
2-2.
The first and second over-times would result in no gains for
either team. The first over-time would be started with a shot
attempt by CSU's Michelle Dennis that flew just high of the goal,
and would end with a save by CSU's Alyssa Budros after a shot
attempt from The College. The second over-time would be much of
same fast-paced tempo with little gain to show for it. CSU's
Lindsey Trexler and Michelle Dennis would both attempt to pull the
Lady Bucs in front, but were answered with saves from The College's
Smith. The end of double overtime would leave the score at a tie
of 2-2, and leave both teams waiting for next year and a chance to
hold sole bragging rights.
