Postgame quotes from DB Matt Bach, DE Joel Walton and Head Coach
Jay Mills after the 20-13 loss to #23 Liberty
Senior DB Matt Bach
On the effort of his defensive teammates:
"I'm extremely proud of our defense. The offense gave up some
turnovers early, but we came out and fought our butts off and only
gave up field goals."
On the breaks that propelled Liberty to victory:
"It's a game of turnovers. We turned the ball over more and we
ended up taking the loss."
On his outlook for the rest of the season:
"I definitely think the breaks are going to start going our way.
There's no question that ever since I've been here this is the
hardest working team we've had, and eventually we're going to start
coming through (with the win.)"
Junior DE Joel Walton
On the respect the team gained today:
"Yeah, we pushed hard today, and we definitely showed what we can
do."
On the team's goals for the rest of the season:
"We are really working hard to finish with a winning season so
we can carry the momentum over to the next year."
Head Coach Jay Mills
On the heart his team showed in defeat:
"We certainly answered the question about whether or not we have
what it takes. We just made a couple more errors than they made,
and they made a couple of plays more than we did."
On the progress the CSU program has made:
"We've gone from a team that in the not-too-distant past was
searching for wins to a team that now is disappointed in not
beating a top-25 team. It shows how far we've come."
On implementing the Wildcat offense for the first
time:
"We've been playing around with it in practice for the last five or
six weeks, and we decided this is the week we're going to unveil
it. We wanted to do it in the 2nd half so they could not adjust to
it at halftime, and then in the 3rd quarter we had the wind, so we
couldn't pass up using that. So it had to be the 4th quarter."
On the success the Wildcat had against Liberty:
"We stayed in it almost the entire drive. It was good, hard-nosed,
physical football. Antwan Ivey did a great job, as did the
offensive line and the receivers with their blocking."
On the effort his defense gave:
"Our defense did a tremendous job against the #1-ranked scoring
offense in the conference, and really, 20 points isn't even what
the defense allowed. Seven points came after we turned the ball
over and set them up inside the 1-yard line and another time we
turned the ball over inside of our own 25-yard line. So basically
our defense allowed ten points against the best offense in the
conference."
On the role turnovers played:
"There's no question (that turnovers were key). They got ten points
off of them."
