CHARLESTON, S.C. - Postgame quotes are
available from senior C Billy Blackmon and Head Coach Barclay
Radebaugh after Charleston Southern's 103-53 win over Toccoa Falls
on Monday night.
Billy Blackmon
On what the team wanted to accomplish against Toccoa
Falls:
"We wanted to come out and execute. Execution was a big thing we
worked."
On the success the team had rebounding the
basketball:
"Ever since the Stetson game, Coach (Radebaugh) has been on us to
rebound. We struggled with that against Air Force. In practice
though, we've been going hard (after rebounds) and that showed
tonight."
On the team's slow start:
"I don't really want to blame it on (the jetlag). We came out
a little flat and didn't execute, but we were able to pick it up
and turn things around."
On the improvements the team needs to make to beat Liberty
on Thursday:
"We need to run our offense better than we did tonight. We
struggled with that against Air Force too. Liberty runs the same
kind of 3-2 zone that Air Force ran, and it will be a challenge.
But we've got to work on it in practice."
Barclay Radebaugh
On what concerned him about tonight's performance:
"I thought we played hard. Overall, our execution is still a little
lacking. Twenty turnovers is a concern. It certainly gives us a
little something to work on before we play Liberty."
On the success his team had on the glass against Toccoa
Falls:
"We were so much bigger (than Toccoa Falls). So we wanted to start
our possessions by throwing it into the post. With the way our
guards shoot, it can creates some match-up problems, and that was
the case tonight."
On the way his team boxed out:
"We've got great size, and we boxed out well. Certainly we were
bigger and stronger, and we should have won the rebound battle. The
thing that we did that I liked was that we were fundamental with
our box outs. That's something we struggled with against Air Force.
Because we press we have a lot of transition box outs, and I
thought we did well with them tonight."
On the challenges Toccoa Falls presented for his
team:
"It's hard to play a smaller team like that. They are four guys on
the floor at all times who can shoot the ball, and they did a good
job in the early going of finding those guys."
On the play of Patrick Shaughnessy:
"I was really impressed with Patrick. He's gotten better every day.
He clocks in and works every day; he doesn't take a day off. I'm so
impressed with him as a person. He's humble, he's a worker and he's
going to be a wonderful player here. He played some significant
minutes against Air Force, and he played more minutes tonight. And
that's how it happens - you earn your playing time."
