LEXINGTON, Va. - Postgame quotes from CSU Head
Coach Barclay Radebaugh are available after his team's 103-91 loss
to VMI on Saturday
His overall impression of the game:
"I want to applaud our guys and their effort. I'm extremely
proud of them. VMI played very well. Many of their made shots were
contested. Many of those shots, other teams wouldn't attempt, much
less make."
On the fine offensive efforts of some of his
underclassmen:
"I thought we had some wonderful individual efforts. Kenny Mitchell
played very well, very physical. Jeremy Sexton was very good on the
offensive end. Kelvin Martin gave his normal double-double."
On how VMI was successful from three-point range:
"We struggled a little bit to guard the ball, which gave them some
open threes. But they also hit numerous contested threes which we
guarded."
On the match-up problems presented by VMI:
"(VMI) runs it so hard at you, and they have five guards (on
the floor). We play some bigs in our normal rotation. We can go
small, and we did, putting Kelvin (Martin) at the four for parts of
the game, but we don't have that many guards, we have to play some
bigs. It's just not typical college basketball."
On the tempo of VMI that CSU struggled with:
"They take the ball out of bounds, and they come roaring up
the floor at you, almost like teams would do after a missed shot.
Usually, on a make, you can get matched up with your man, but
against VMI, you just have to get back."
On how he plans to use the eleven-day break:
"We'll evaluate our team over these next eleven days, and we'll
have some very brisk practices, intense practices to shore up our
weaknesses. We've got 11 days to get better, and I'm really excited
about that."
On taking a break after two consecutive losses:
"I'd love to play again (soon), but I can see in our team that
we need to practice because we are so young. Most of our guys
playing significant minutes are freshmen and sophomores. So I'd
like to have twenty more days if we could."
