FLORENCE, S.C. - Michelle Dennis and Marky Boyce did what they
do best, combining for all three goals as the dynamic duo led the
Charleston Southern soccer team to a convincing 3-2 victory over
Francis Marion University Sunday afternoon at FMU Soccer
Field.
The Buccaneers (7-3) end non-conference play on a high note,
dominating a Patriot squad (1-10-1) who couldn't find a way to
contain the CSU attack.
Dennis put the road side ahead in the fourth minute with an easy
goal that was set up with a nice pass from Boyce.
Lindsey Trexler found Boyce in the 12th minute to give CSU the
2-0 advantage, which would be the score at the end of the first
half.
Boyce found the back of the net again after Sarah Catenacci sent
a perfect long ball over the top of the defense in the 64th
minute.
The second half was a little more wide open, and the Bucs were
unable to earn the clean sheet after allowing goals to Kiley
Williams and Angela Salem late.
Goalkeeper Jena Lalich started her first game of the season, and
responded with a six-save, two-goal performance. She now stands at
2-0 this season after earning the win.
Emily Brandenburg fell to 0-4 after allowing three goals and
saving five shots.
The Buccaneers outshot Francis Marion 15-13 and had three corner
kicks to FMU's two.
Charleston Southern will now enter Big South Conference action,
beginning next weekend with road matchups against Liberty
University and High Point University. CSU will faceoff with the
Flames at 1 p.m. Oct. 3 in Lynchburg, Va.
