Coach Barclay Radebaugh provides his thoughts following CSU's 99-66
win over Bluefield Tuesday, Dec. 22.
Coach Radebuagh
On the general flow of the game:
I thought Bluefield was ready to play. I thought they came in
here, they were much improved. We got off to a little bit of a slow
start. We played well in the second half, kind of got the running
game going. Defensively, we picked it up, started knocking some
loose balls away, and contesting shots a little bit better. We
stretched out our lead.
On the play of Jeremy Sexton:
Jeremy's an excellent shooter, and, you know, he's so skilled
when he gets it going like that. His teammates know that, and when
he gets it going, we get him the ball and he does some good things
for us.
On the team's preparedness for conference play:
I think this team, for 25, 28, 30 minutes a game is good
enough to beat anybody in our league. I'm concerned about our
stretches, our lulls. You know, we got it up to 20 pretty quick,
and then we have a tendency at times to turn the engine off a
little bit. It's not just in these games, but, you know, we had
some tough stretches against College of Charleston, some tough
stretches against Coastal Carolina, and then we start moving around
and concentrating, and go on some nice runs. We can spurt; we can
put points together in bunches, but often, not the case tonight,
but in most of our games those spurts are used to catch up. We just
have to put 40 good minutes together, and that's maturity,
leadership. Sometimes that's a bit frustrating as a coach, not to
be able to put 40 minutes together, but we know our problem, and
our guys are certainly willing to work on it.
On CSU's post-Christmas schedule:
We're going to come back the 26th at 5:00, practice on the
27th, head down to Athens, and play them on the 28th. We come back
that night, practice the 29th and 30th for just a huge game. It's
just a very important game for us on the 31st at 4:30 against High
Point, and then Radford on the 2nd. Those are two games that will
help shape our season to be the season we want it to be.
