CSU Wins 94-65 in a Shootout Over North Greenville

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern stepped out of conference play for a game, taking a 94-65 win in a shootout over the North Greenville Crusaders Tuesday, at the CSU Field House. The Bucs shot lights out from the floor, posing a 53% (35-66) mark from the field and 40% (11-27) effort from three. CSU improved to 12-14 on the year, while NGU dropped to 12-9.
Jamarco Warren led the way for the Bucs, with a game high 28
points on 10-19 shooting, including five threes. Jeremy Sexton
also poured in 18 points on 7-15 shooting, while adding four
rebounds and three steals. Both Kelvin Martin and Kenny Mitchell
registered double digits, with 10 CSU players finding the scoring
column. For NGU, it was Paul Harrison with a team best 11 points
on 5-8 shooting.
Mitchell scored the first six points of the game, helping CSU to
jump out to a 10-2 advantage. NGU surged for a 7-2 run from there,
capped off by a Harrison layup that made it 12-9 at the 14:28
mark. The Bucs responded with an 8-0 run, thanks to five straight
points from Austin Johnson.
CSU continued to tack on to their lead, jumping out to a 34-16 lead
on a Martin dunk, with 6:59 on the clock. The Crusaders managed to
trade a few baskets late in the half, but the Bucs led by as many
as 28 with a 49-21 score. NGU did manage to score the final five
points of the frame, making it a 49-26 score at the intermission.
Warren tallied 20 first half points, nearly outscoring the NGU
himself, while CSU shot 52% from the field as the team.
The Crusaders had a pair of baskets to start the second half, but
CSU responded with a 17-1 run, going up 68-31 four minutes in to
the half. NGU came back with a 10-0 run of their own, using
back-to-back threes to cut the deficit to 68-41.
CSU held a 30 plus point lead for the next several minutes, gaining
some distance on a Warren three to make it an 85-47 score with
10:07 on the clock. The Bucs slowed down on offense from there,
posting just four points over four minutes. The Crusaders used the
opportunity to go on a 12-4 run, making it a 91-62 score with 3:26
remaining in the game.
Both teams hit some free throws late in the game, bringing the
final score to 94-65. For the game, NGU shot 50% (23-56) from the
field, while CSU shot 53%.
CSU gets back in to conference play this weekend, playing in their
final road game of the regular season, when travel to face the
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers on Saturday, February 20, at 2 p.m.
