CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern diamond nine hung tough with Virginia Tech before falling, 4-2, Saturday afternoon at CSU Ballpark. The win is the second in a row for the Hokies over the host Buccaneers.

Jesse Hahn (2-0) took the win for after tossing a solid seven innings. Hahn allowed both CSU runs on eight hits while striking out five. Charlie McCready (0-1) took the loss after starting and giving up four runs (three earned) in five innings of work. Ben Rowan pitched a scoreless 9th for Virginia Tech and picked up his first save of the season.

The Buccaneers (2-4) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Matt Still led off the inning with a double down the right field line. Two batters later, Walt Quattlebaum singled the CSU 3rd baseman home, giving the Bucs a quick lead.

The Hokies (3-2) tied the game in the top of the 3rd frame. Back-to-back singles from Sean Ryan and Mike Kaminski put ducks on the pond for Tim Smalling, who stroked a run-scoring single to left field. Ryan came home to score, but McCready bore down and struck out Preseason All-American Austin Wates to end the inning and keep the game tied.

Virginia Tech took their first lead of the game in the top of the 4th. A day after belting two home runs, Steve Domecus led the inning off with a double to the left center gap. Anthony Sosnoskie followed with an RBI double of his own, giving the Hokies a 2-1 lead.

CSU tied the game up in the bottom of the inning. Tyler Thornburg led off the inning with a walk and advanced to third on a sharp single from Still. Nick Chinners followed with an RBI single to even the game at 2-2.

Two-out defensive miscues from the Buccaneers allowed the visitors to plate two runs in the 5th. With two gone and runners on first and second, Sosnoskie popped up in the direction of 1st base, but the Buccaneers could not glove it, allowing a run to score. The next batter, Michael Seaborn, grounded to second, but a throwing error by Brandon McKinney allowed a second tally to come home, making the score 4-2, Virginia Tech.

Stew Brase came on to pitch the 6th for Charleston Southern and did a fine job keeping the game tied. After the Hokies put runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out, Brase got consecutive groundouts from Smalling and Wates to end the inning unscathed.

Unfortunately for the Buccaneers, the CSU offense could not capitalize on Brase's fine work. The Bucs put runners on base in the 6th, 8th and 9th innings but could not push another tally across the plate. Still had a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate while Meier extended his six-game hitting streak with a 3-for-4 day.

Brase was dominant in relief for Charleston Southern, pitching four scoreless innings. The junior allowed just two hits and struck out two Hokies. The fine outing extends his scoreless inning streak to 8.1 innings, dating back to the 2009 season.

The Buccaneers and Hokies wrap up their three-game series on Sunday. First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m. at CSU Ballpark.
