CHARLESTON S.C. - CSU defeated South Carolina State today at Buccaneer field at a score of 2-1. The victory improves the Bucs record to 5-4-0 overall and drops the Bulldogs of South Carolina State to 4-4-1.

The Bucs get back to their winning ways after two straight losses.

The match was physical and contentious throughout with both coaches lobbying the head referee for more calls throughout the match. There were a season high 21 total fouls called; 13 on SCSU and 8 on CSU. The referee also issued a yellow card and a SCSU player was sent off with a straight red card in the waning moments of the match.

The Bucs got on the board early in today's match, with a goal in the 3rd minute from their best finisher; Marky Boyce. Freshman Emma Krantz drew defenders to her on the right wing then passed the ball back against the grain to a wide open Boyce in front of goal. Boyce made no mistake and chose placement over power. She put a low shot past the outstretched arms of the keeper. This was Boyce's tenth goal of the season thus far. Boyce continues on her remarkable scoring pace, averaging over a goal per contest this season.

The Bucs held the lead and dominated play throughout the first half, allowing only two shots on goal from the Bulldogs in the first half.

CSU Freshman Emma Krantz had her first goal of her college career after a great move outside the box wrong footed the defender so badly that she lost her footing and fell down. Krantz found herself one on one with the keeper. Her first shot came off the far post and back to her feet, and Krantz would not miss a second time.

The Bucs held the 2-0 lead until late in the second half, when Tori Papp put in a goal off a counterattack.

It was a matter of too little, too late for the Bulldogs from South Carolina State. They could not find a second goal late to get the match back on level terms and force overtime. The Bucs earned a hard fought much-needed victory over an extremely familiar opponent.

The Bucs continue their home stand with a match next Tuesday at 3 p.m. against Longwood.
