CHARLESTON, S.C. - In Big South Conference play the visiting Winthrop Eagles scored two late first half goals and an early second half goal to beat the Lady Bucs 3-0, in a hard fought battle at Buccaneer Field on the campus of Charleston Southern University, in Charleston, S.C.

As the conference tournament loomed in the background, Charleston Southern stepped into their last regular season match. Senior Day for five CSU soccer players was on tap for today's action. Goalkeeper Amy Arroyo, midfielders Anja Djumisic and Andrea Williams and defenders Casey Bolduc and Olivia Urig. All seniors were recognized for their hard work, commitment, and dedication to the CSU women's soccer program.

Today's action saw CSU take on 2nd seeded Winthrop. A hard fought battle to keep conference rankings ensued as both teams were playing for Big South Conference Tournament spots. Both teams qualified for the tournament on Thursday but what seed they would end up with would be determined on what happened in today's match-ups.

The first 30 minutes of the match saw both teams have chances on frame but could not break the dead lock on a cold but sunny afternoon. As the half wound down Winthrop inserted freshman Krystyna Freda. At the 40:31 mark, Freda found herself past the almost unbreakable CSU defense, when Winthrop's Rachel Webster slipped in Freda who then chipped her shot over goalkeeper Amy Arroyo for the game's first goal. Charleston Southern looked to counter as they committed players forward into the attack but an Allison Lewis shot was just wide of frame. As the half came to a close a mad scramble in the box saw Winthrop's Webster play a ball backpost to Freda who would touch the ball around an outstretched Arroyo and finish her 2nd goal of the match at the 44:34 mark.

The second half started at a fast pace as CSU looked to get on the score sheet and cause trouble for the Winthrop defense. A Morgann Wood header went glancing wide as CSU looked to get their attack going. At times CSU looked threatening but could not find a life line. Just as CSU was getting into their game plan a free kick was awarded to Winthrop. Kylene Babauta ran over the ball and flicked it to Freda who would curl her shot in the side of the goal past a diving Amy Arroyo. After that goal, the Lady Bucs had no choice but to commit as many numbers forward as they could. Searching to grab a goal Coach Eric Terrill started playing with four forwards but still could not find the net. As both teams battled for the rest of the second half, Winthrop seemed to get the most dangerous chances. With five minutes remaining CSU almost found a goal when Kenandra DeSaussure got in behind the Winthrop defense but could not finish her chance on goal. The game ended but both teams left all they had out on the field.

CSU will be in action Thursday, November 3, as they play in the Big South Conference Tournament at Blackbaud Stadium, in Charleston, S.C. The seeding for the tournament will be announced after all games have been played on Saturday, October 29th. The winner of the Big South Tournament gets the NCAA automatic bid into the NCAA Division 1 women's soccer tournament.
