WILMINGTON N.C.: The Lady Bucs fell to
tournament host UNC Wilmington (25-22, 25-18, 25-16) in second
round of the Garden Inn Mayfaire Tournament in Wilmington N.C.

Freshman Sydney Tracy led the way for the Bucs with 13 kills,
hitting at .417. Wynter Davis, Erin LaVenice, and Amy Nokes each
had four kills. Ashley Higginbothem led with 12 digs, while Nokes
and Kirsten Struksnes both had 12 assists. Combined CSU had 31
kills, 28 assists, and 38 digs while hitting for .135.
Christi Laite led UNCW with 15 kills to go along with six digs.
Kesley Bendig paced the Seahawks with 29 assists. UNCW finished the
match with 38 kills, 32 assists, and 41 digs while hitting for
.312.
A Kayla Klinger kill started the first set and put CSU up 1-0.
Consecutive kills by Erin LaVenice and Wynter Davis stretched the
Buc lead 3-1. UNCW would go on a run and take the one point lead
4-3 before another LaVenice kill would tie it 4-4. CSU would take
the 7-5 lead, before UNCW would re-tie the set 7-7. Back to back
Syndey Tracy kills would put CSU up 9-7, before UNCW would again
tie it, this time at 9 apiece. The set would tie at 12-12, 13-13,
and 14-14 before Sydey Tracy sent in a CSU kill for the 15-14 Buc
advantage. UNCW would go on a run to take the slight lead 18-16
before another Tracy kill brought CSU within one 18-17. Tracy would
attempt to keep the Lady Bucs close, but UNCW would end up winning
the set 25-22. The Lady Bucs led in kills 13-10, and attacks 36-32,
but also led in errors 6-3.
UNCW errors and a Sydney Tracy kill would see CSU taking the 4-0
lead early in the second set. Kills by Sydney Tracy and Andrea
Keesee would give the Lady Bucs the 6-3 advantage. Sydney Tracy
kept the lead at three with a kill putting CSU up 8-5. UNCW would
tie the set at nine, before Andrea Keesee and Wynter Davis would
give CSU the 13-10 lead. The set would go back and forth with both
teams exchanging game-tying points. UNCW would start to build a
lead 23-17 before putting CSU away 25-18. CSU again led in errors
6-4, UNCW led in kills 14-9 and both teams had 33 attacks.
The third set saw both teams struggle to get a lead with the set
being tied at four before UNCW would go up 8-4. Morgan Hadden and
Amy Nokes each had a kill to bring CSU close 9-7. Wynter Davis
would help the Lady Bucs chip away the UNCW lead 11-9. UNCW would
then begin to pull away before closing out the set and match 25-16.
UNCW led in attacks and kills with 28 and 14 respectively, while
CSU notched nine kills and 27 attacks.
