CHARLESTON, S.C.- It took two, second half goals to lift Charleston Southern past The Citadel in Saturday afternoon's match at Washington Light Infantry Field on the campus of The Citadel in Charleston, S.C.

The first half saw a physical midfield battle as both teams tried to get the game under control. At times, CSU threatened Citadel's goal but could not get a clear cut chance on target. A Morgann Wood set-piece went astray, to seemingly be the only decent chance that the Lady Bucs had in the first 45 minutes. The half was plagued by fouls committed by both teams who collectively amassed 15 fouls.

In the 30th minute of play, The Citadel got on the board with a 22 yard shot from Vanessa Aponte. Aponte collected the ball at the top of the 18 yard box, pulled the ball out of a crowd of players and set up her right foot for a go on goal. The ball hit the post, right past the outstretched arms of Caitlin Cody and bounded in. As the half wound down, The Citadel seemed to find their game and pushed numbers forward pressuring the Lady Bucs defense and goal.

The second half started as the first half ended with The Citadel pressing and CSU on their heels. In the 62nd minute, CSU got a life line, when Toni Lashley tucked away a cross from Morgann Wood to level the score. The play started when Lashley collected the ball at midfield through a hussle play then played Ali Lewis a pass. Lewis then found a streaking Morgann Wood, who played a searching cross towards Lashley, who in a full out stretch, got a foot to Wood's cross to slide it in the goal which knotted the match at 1.

In the 72nd minute CSU found their game winner. A corner, created by a Morgann Wood shot, was taken by Wood and driven to the foot of Olivia Urig. Urig had a one touch, inside of the foot finish as she received the ball inside of the six yard box. The goal is Urig's first of the season and well deserved after all the hard work in defense this season.

As the second half went on The Citadel pushed more numbers forward but the Lady Bucs stayed strong and held on to the road win. "This was a tough battle but our young team came to play. A road win is great for our team. Our seniors stepped up to the plate and played well for us. We are taking steps forward and I am very happy with our play and our heart," as Coach Terrill comments on the hard fought win on the road. The victory lifts CSU to 4-3-0 on the season giving them their first winning record of the year as they get ready for conference play.

The Lady Bucs will be back in action as they make a three game road trip starting at Longwood(9/23), and then start conference play at High Point (9/27), and end with conference foe Liberty at Liberty(10/1).
