Bucs Dismiss Scarlet Knights, 7-0

Box score

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern tennis team picked up its fourth straight win with a 7-0 triumph over Rutgers on Wednesday afternoon at the Buccaneer Tennis Center.

CSU posted straight set victories in five of the six singles matches, with the other going in favor of Angelica Sidorenko (7-6, 2-1) before the match was called due to rain and lightning in the area. Marija Dzakovic and Yvonne Hubler continued to pace the Bucs, running their records to 7-1 on the year. Dzakovic dismissed the Scarlet Knights' Stefania Balasa, 6-2, 6-1, while Hubler posted a 6-1, 6-4 win over RU's Morgan Ivey, a Mt. Pleasant native.

Olga Makhova once again did the job at the top singles spot, downing the Knights' Vanessa Petrini, 6-1, 6-3. Alexandra Walters and Alia Nour, meanwhile, showcased the Bucs' depth yet again with wins out of the number five and six singles slots. Walters now stands at a perfect 8-0 in singles matches this season to lead the team.

RU was able to register a 8-4 win at number one doubles behind Petrini and Jennifer Holzberg, but CSU took the other two doubles matches. Hubler and Walters prevailed, 9-7, while Nour and Sidorenko teamed for an 8-5 win.

CSU returns to Big South action Friday at 2 p.m. when it hosts Liberty. The Flames enter at 3-9 but have won each of their last two matches. The Bucs dropped a tough 4-3 match to Liberty in Lynchburg last season, but enjoyed a 6-1 victory in 2010.
