CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern women's tennis team
rebounded from a tough loss earlier in the week to open Big South
competition with a 4-3 win over Radford at the Buccaneer Tennis
Center Sunday.
CSU had dropped its first dual match of the season to North
Florida on Tuesday, but was able to bounce back with a narrow
victory of its own. Two-time Big South Player of the Year Olga
Makhova helped lead the way for the Bucs by posting a 6-2, 6-0 win
at number one singles, in addition to teaming with Marija Dzakovic
for a triumph at number one doubles.
The Bucs emerged victorious at number two doubles as well, with
Yvonne Hubler and Alexandra Walters meshing for an 8-2 win. Radford
was able to keep itself around in the match by claiming the third
and final doubles match, 8-3, over CSU's tandem of Alia Nour and
Susita Das.
Hubler and Walters joined Makhova in the win column in singles
play, posting 6-3, 3-6, 6-1; and 6-0, 6-1, victories,
respectively.
CSU returns to action next weekend with a pair of
out-of-conference matches. The Bucs welcome UNC-Wilmington to
Charleston Saturday at 2 p.m., before meeting UNC-Greensboro Sunday
at 10 a.m.
