Dotson sets record; Bucs take third at Royal XC Challenge

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Sophomore Jessie Dotson led the Charleston Southern women's cross country team, setting a CSU school record in pacing the Bucs to a third place finish at the Royal XC Challenge held at McAlpine Creek Park on Friday evening, finishing in the top 10 for the third time this season to top the Buccaneers' efforts on the weekend.
Charleston Southern finished third overall among the NCAA Division I teams in the meet, behind South Carolina and Duke, while topping fellow Big South members Presbyterian and Gardner-Webb on the five-kilometer course.
Dotson crossed the finish line in 18:16.9 to finish ninth overall in the event to lead the Buccaneers. Her time sets the CSU individual school record, yet another accolade Dotson has earned during her two years in the Bucs Blue and Gold.
Freshman Madison Burkholder was in the top 20, finishing 19th with a time of 19:07.0, while senior Mary Davidson and freshman Emily Lyons finished less than a minute later, crossing the line one after another with Davidson placing 29th overall, while Lyons took 30th in the standings.
Freshmen Hannah Palm and Madison Perkins closed out the group of Buccaneers that took on the course with Palm crossing the line 34th overall, while Perkins placed 40th.
Charleston Southern is back in action next weekend as the Buccaneers travel to Boone, N.C., to take on the field in the Blue Ridge Open.
