Long leads CSU to fourth place finish at Royal XC Challenge

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Freshman Zachary Long led the Charleston Southern men's cross country team to a fourth place finish at the Royal XC Challenge on Friday evening at McAlpine Creek Park, finishing in the top 20 in the evening to pace the Buccaneers efforts.
CSU finished just off the podium, placing behind Duke, Charlotte and UNC Greensboro, while placing ahead of Big South rivals Presbyterian and Gardner-Webb in the eight-kilometer race.
Long crossed the finish line with a time of 27:31.0 to finish 19th overall in the race to lead the Bucs on the weekend. Kuaniyal Chol and Caleb Breeden finished a minute later with Chol crossing the line in 28:50.1 to finish 29th, while Breeden crossed the line seven seconds later in finishing 30th overall in the race.
Oshay Davenport (41st) and Carlton Holland (42nd) rounded out the group of Buccaneers to take on the course on the evening.
The Buccaneers are back in action next weekend at James Island County Park as CSU takes part in The Citadel Duals, with a start time set for 3 p.m.
