ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Charleston Southern Men's Cross Country team opened their season by taking ninth at the Asheville Cross Country Carnival on Saturday morning.
It was also the first event in the collegiate careers of first-year runners Caleb Breeden, who ran 20:31, and Zachary Long, who logged 20:49.
Senior Scott Morrison had a time of 20:44, pacing the Buccaneer's finish ahead of Big South Conference rival Presbyterian.
The Bucs all finished within 15 seconds of one another. CSU head coach Ryan Thompson was pleased with the Bucs' first event.
"They ran well together," Thompson said. "I really just wanted them to stay together and run in a pack. Today's race was only a 6k so this was about getting some experience, especially for our freshmen runners."
Host team UNC-Asheville won the event, finishing ahead of Western Carolina and Radford.
The Bucs return to Charleston to prepare for their next event hosted by The Citadel on September 28th.
