NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Led by freshman Shelby Thompson, Charleston Southern wrapped up its second event of the fall season with a ninth place finish in the 2013 Yale Fall Intercollegiate on Sunday at The Course at Yale.
Thompson finished in a tie for tenth place individually after firing a final round 79 (+8) to follow up on opening round scores of 71 (E) and 73 (+2). CSU carded a final round 320 as a team to finish at 928 for the tournament.
Host Yale University captured the team title, besting Xavier by 19 strokes with a three-round tally of 874. Yale's Elisabeth Bernabe won the individual championship, finishing at one-over par 214.
Senior Jordan Hollinshead matched Thompson for the Bucs' best final round score with a 79. Fellow senior Torey Johnson completed a solid opening tournament with a final round 82 to finish in 37th place at 233 strokes.
Playing out of the number one spot for coach Matthew Cram-Smith, senior Vanessa Jay finished in a tie for 43rd thanks to rounds of 78, 79, and 80. Freshman Bella Johnson rounded out the play for the Bucs with a final round 82 to finish in a tie for 47th place.
CSU will be back in action next Monday and Tuesday as it competes in the UNCG Starmount Fall Classic. Play at Starmount Forest Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. is set to begin the morning of Monday, September 30.
