DAUFUSKIE ISLAND, S.C. - David Denlinger closed out the Rees Jones Invitational strong to lead Charleston Southern at the Haig Point Jones Signature Course as the Buccaneers finished 12th overall in the team standings in the tournament.

Denlinger provided steady play to lead the Bucs over the three day event, finishing up his final round with a team-low 79 on the afternoon. The CSU senior, who started his round on hole 10, eagled the 18th hole, sparking a trend of three birdies over the final nine holes to pace the Buccaneers efforts as he finished 44th overall in the tournament standings.

Charleston Southern finished up the tournament with a team score of 950, 86-over par for the tournament in finishing behind tournament champion Kennesaw State, who surged past South Florida and South Carolina to take the team crown.

Ross Thompson finished up his tournament in turning in a final card of 83 on the day, after birdie-ing holes 11 and 18. His three day total of 236 placed him in a tie for 50th in the event.

Nicolas Baena finished one stroke back of his teammate after carding a final round of 83 on Tuesday. Baena recorded birdies on holes six and nine on the afternoon in finishing in a tie for 54th overall.

Austin James battled through the course as well, finishing up the tournament on a positive note with a birdie on hole nine to close out the event in 68th overall. Fellow teammate Jarrett Swan did not complete the final round after withdrawing from the tournament due to injury.

C.J. Liner also competed against the field as an individual in the tournament, closing out his final round with an 82 in finishing tied for 57th overall.

Charleston Southern is back in action next weekend at the Badger Invitational, held in Madison, Wis., at the University Ridge Golf Course. Tournament play begins on September 29 and runs through October 1.
