
Karlsone, Maximilien lead Bucs to 90-37 win over Clearwater Christian

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Alise Karlsone and Monique Maximilien had 14 points apiece, while Christal Barnett and Rochelle Brophy were also in double-digits as Charleston Southern topped visiting Clearwater Christian on Monday night inside the Buc Dome, 90-37.
Karlsone drilled three second half three-pointers, while Maximilien narrowly missed out on her second double-double of the season with nine rebounds as the Bucs improved to 2-0 in the 2014-15 season with the win over the visiting Cougars.
Barnett finished the evening with 12 points and six rebounds, while Brophy added 11 points and five boards as the Bucs held the 63-29 rebounding edge over Clearwater in the contest. For the second straight game, CSU finished with more offensive than defensive rebounds with 33 boards on the offensive glass.
"Mo played really well tonight," said CSU head coach Fred Applin. "She posted up, got position, and rebounded really well. Rebounding is something we've got to continue working on as a team, but we had some good stretches tonight."
Alyssa Mann set up the CSU offense in the contest with a career-high eight assists. The redshirt sophomore added eight points and eight rebounds in the game.
Defensively, CSU forced 36 Clearwater turnovers in the game with the Bucs recorded 25 steals. Maximilien and freshman guard Alecia Hardy had four steals apiece to lead the Bucs' efforts as CSU scored 31 points off of turnovers in the game.
The Bucs scored the first 10 points of the game and built a 24-5 lead at the midway point of the first half following a Maximilien layup. Clearwater kept the game under 20 points as Hanna Glaze connected on a free throw and a layup with 6:06 left in the first half, but Barnett answered with a layup on the other end to end th eCougars' run.
CSU led by as many as 27 with 2:51 left in the first half as Shauntavia Dobson connected on the three-pointer as the Bucs went into the break with the 41-15 halftime lead.
The Bucs took control of the game early in the second half as CSU's first eight baskets came inside the paint with Maximilien, Natasha Lebedeva, Mann, Brianna Lakes and Tatum Jarvis all driving in to score. Karlsone's first three-pointer of the half put the Bucs ahead 59-23 with 11:30 remaining in the contest.
In the closing minutes, Eden Crowell connected on her first collegiate basket, hitting a short jumper in the left corner to put CSU ahead 85-37. Tamornay Harris followed with a three-pointer from the right wing to cap off the evening as the Bucs closed out their opening home weekend with the 90-37 win.
CSU's 27 assists tied for the third-most in program history, while the Bucs 25 steals were also the third-most topping the 24 set by the Bucs back on Nov. 30, 1999, against Southern Virginia.
Hallie Linville led Clearwater Christian on the evening with 12 points, while Glaze finished with six points and six rebounds in the losing effort. Liz Jenkins added seven points and six steals for the Cougars.
Charleston Southern heads to the road this weekend for the first of four straight games away from the Buc Dome as CSU takes on Wofford inside Johnson Arena on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff between the Bucs and the Terriers is set for 2 p.m.
