Bucs fall on the road to Stetson on Sunday afternoon

Box Score

DELAND, Fla. - Charleston Southern fell in their final tune-up before opening Big South Conference play on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 1-0 decision down in DeLand, Fla., to Stetson at the Athletic Training Center.

Liz-Amanda Brown had a career-high 13 saves for the Bucs in the effort as the freshman goalkeeper faced 24 Stetson shots in the match, but the Hatters were able to put in the go-ahead goal in the 82nd minute of the match off the foot of Eduarda Pavao.

Chelsea Phillips led CSU with four shots in the match, including three on goal, but Stetson goalkeeper Karlie Hightower proved up to the task in recording the shutout.

CSU falls to 4-4 overall on the season with the loss, while Stetson improves to 2-7-1 with the win.

Phillips had the first shots in each half for the Bucs, but CSU was unable to put a lot of offensive pressure throughout the match in falling for the second time this week. Anna Sells added a shot in the 66th minute, but her attempt sailed wide, while corner kicks by the Bucs late in the match failed to give CSU a shot on goal.

Pavao put in the eventual game-winner in the match at the 81:33 mark, taking the pass from Sarah Collins in front of the goal and turning to put it in the net to give Stetson the 1-0 lead.

CSU returns home this week as the Bucs open up Big South Conference play at home on Wednesday afternoon, welcoming Liberty to the CSU Soccer Field. Kickoff between the conference foes is set for 3 p.m.
