CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern fell in the final game of the Nike Tournament to visiting Richmond, dropping a 3-1 decision on Sunday afternoon to the Spiders at the CSU Soccer Field.

Anna Sells scored her fifth goal of the season in the loss, connecting on a header off the corner kick from Emma Faubert in the 60th minute to halve the CSU deficit, but the Bucs were unable to overcome two first-half goals by Meaghan Carrigan in falling to the Spiders.

CSU saw their three-match winning streak come to an end on Sunday afternoon as the Bucs fell to 4-2 overall on the season. Richmond improved to 3-2 overall on the season with the victory.

Freshman goalkeeper Liz-Amanda Brown recorded seven saves for the Bucs in goal as CSU was outshot in the contest 25-8 to visiting Richmond. Emily Kelly made one save in goal for Richmond in taking the victory.

Carrigan found the net at the 20:24 mark in the first half to put the Spiders ahead early in the contest. Shannon Colligan set up the attempt with a short pass into the box to the feet of Ashley Riefner, who one-timed it to Carrigan in front of an open net to put the Spiders ahead 1-0.

Five minutes later, Carrigan added her second goal of the contest, again taking the pass into the box from Riefner before putting it into the net with her left foot at the 25:56 mark to double the Richmond lead.

Sells put the Bucs on the board at the 59:42 mark with her team-leading fifth goal of the season to bring CSU back to within one. Faubert lofted the corner kick through the box with Sells soaring above the defense for the header into the back of the net to put the score at 2-1.

Lexi Prillaman added a late insurance goal for Richmond at the 77:06 mark, taking the thru-ball from Riefner, with her shot deflecting off Brown and into the left side of the net to put the final margin at 3-1.

Charleston Southern takes a week off before returning to action as the Bucs host The Citadel on Wednesday, September 17th at the CSU Soccer Field. Kickoff between the Bucs and the Bulldogs is set for 3 p.m.
