PINEHURST, N.C. – Junior Shelby Thompson finished 17th and the Buccaneers took 14th as a team at the 2015 Pinehurst Challenge, which wrapped up on Tuesday morning on the No. 1 course at Pinehurst Resort.
Thompson finished at 1-over for the tournament and tied for 17th to lead the way for the Bucs. She was seventh in the field in par-4 scoring at 1-over for the week.
CSU put together a team 301 (+13) in the final round, losing some ground in what was a very tight field to start the day.
East Carolina (857) won the team title for the fourth time, holding off Chattanooga by six strokes. Elon (866) finish third, nine strokes back. Iowa (873) and Maryland tied for fourth to round out the top five. William & Mary's Alessandra Liu closed at 10-under 206 to claim medalist honors with a new tournament 54-hole record.
The Bucs finished ahead of High Point from the Big South in addition to UNCG, Marshall, and Western Carolina, among others. 
Sophomore Emelie Flink posted a 3-over 75 in the final round and finished at 5-over for the event to tie for 37th. Sophomore Hayley McNeill was 59th following a 77 (+5) on Tuesday. 
Junior Bella Johnson also posted a 77 (+5) and sophomore Milleina Ohara shot a 78 (+6). 
The Bucs return to action at Palmetto Intercollegiate at Kiawah Island, S.C. The event runs from Oct. 25-27 and will be played at Turtle Point Golf Club.
