MARIETTA, Ga. - Charleston Southern bounced back from their setback on Friday afternoon with a 5-2 win over NCAA Division III Emory University at the Kennesaw State Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
The Bucs swept all three doubles matches and singles wins on courts 1, 2, 3 and 6, in topping the #1-ranked team in NCAA Division III on the season as CSU improved to 4-1 on the season with their win over the Eagles.
Marketa Placha and Sophie Cloessner started the afternoon with an 8-1 win on court no. 3 in doubles play, topping Bridget Harding and Michelle Satterfield. Angelica Sidorenko and Mi'Kola Cooper topped Anna Fuhr and Katarina Su, 8-2, on court no. 1 to clinch the doubles point for the Bucs while Yvonne Hubler and Nicolin Luecke defeated Melissa Goodman and Beatrice Rosen on court no. 2, 8-6, to complete the sweep.
Sidorenko put the Bucs ahead 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Satterfield on court no. 2, while Cloessner topped Julie Fowler on court no. 6, 6-4, 6-3, to put the Bucs ahead 3-0.
Harding battled back and put the Eagles on the board on court no. 5 with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 win over Valeria Koussenkova, while Goodman topped Cooper on court no. 4, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
Placha and Luecke closed out the CSU wins on the day with Placha winning 7-5, 6-2 on court no. 1, while Luecke topped Su on court no. 3, 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 10-6.
The Bucs are home on Tuesday afternoon as CSU opens Big South Conference play against the Camels. Doubles play is slated to begin at 2 p.m. at the Buccaneer Tennis Complex.
