BOSTON – Charleston Southern's Saah Nimley has been named a finalist for the 2015 Lou Henson Award, given to the top mid-major player in Division I college basketball. Nimley is one of 31 players on the list that comprises the Lou Henson All-America Team. The winner of the award will be announced at the CollegeInsider.com Awards Banquet on April 3 in Indianapolis, site of the 2015 NCAA Final Four.
Nimley, the Big South Player of the Year, posted one of the best seasons in school history to lead Charleston Southern to a Big South regular season title and a berth in the NIT. The 5-8 senior guard from Lawrenceville, Ga. currently ranks 5th nationally in both scoring and three-pointers per game.
Named after former Illinois and New Mexico State coach Lou Henson, the Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the top mid-major player in college basketball. Mercer University's Langston Hall won the award following the 2014 season. Nimley is joined on the list by fellow Big South player, John Brown, of High Point.
Nimley was named Lou Henson National Player of the Week on January 26 following 31 and 37-point outbursts in wins over UNC Asheville and Gardner-Webb. Those performances wrapped up a stretch of four consecutive 30-point outings for Nimley. He is the only player in the country to accomplish that feat this year. Nimley scored 30 or more points in seven of CSU's final 14 regular season games. He tallied 20 or more points 17 times, including a game-high 27 to pace the Bucs' upset bid against Old Dominion last Wednesday in the NIT.
