CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – For the second consecutive season Charleston Southern will be the top seed at the Big South Women's Tennis Championships next week, as announced today by the league office. The Bucs hold the tiebreaker over Coastal Carolina thanks to their 6-1 win over the Chanticleers on Wednesday in Conway, S.C.
The Tennis Championship, presented by Musco Sports Lighting, will be hosted by UNC Asheville at the Asheville Racquet Club in Asheville, N.C. from April 15-18.
The Bucs went 8-1 in Big South Conference play on the season, topping their final four opponents in the conference slate by a combined team score of 27-1 in clinching honors for the second time in as many seasons.
CSU will open tournament play on Thursday morning, taking on the winner of No. 8 Gardner-Webb/No. 9 Presbyterian with first serve in doubles play set to begin at 9 a.m.
Following the tiebreaker procedure, Coastal Carolina earned the No.2 seed with an 8-1 record. Winthrop and Liberty finished Big South play with identical 7-2 record. By virtue of head-to-head tiebreakers, the Eagles claimed the No. 3 seed and the Flames took the No. 4 seed. Campbell finished fifth with a 5-4 record, while host UNC Asheville and Radford tied with a 3-6 record. In the tiebreak procedure, the Bulldogs took the No. 6 seed and the Highlanders earned the No. 7 seed. Longwood and Gardner-Webb finished with a 2-7 record, with Longwood finishing eighth and Gardner-Webb ninth after the tiebreaker. Presbyterian College's 1-8 record rounds out the field in the No. 10 position.
The 2015 Big South Women's Tennis Championship begins Wednesday, April 15 with three matches, and concludes with the Championship contest on Saturday, April 18 in Asheville, N.C. The Big South's tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Tennis Championship. The Big South Conference Championship schedule is as follows:
