Stellar second round gives James runner-up finish at Charleston Southern Challenge

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Austin James earned a runner-up finish to pace the Bucs in Saturday's Charleston Southern Challenge at Osprey Point Golf Club. CSU finished third as a team in the 36-hole event, behind Marquette and Wisconsin.

James carded a four-under par 68 second round, showcasing the form that made him the 2016 Big South Player of the Year. The Bath, Ontario, native finished at one-over par 145, eight shots behind Marquette's Olive Farrell. Farrell turned in a strong one-under 71 and went low with a six-under 66 in round two.

Marquette won the team title at 12-over par 588. The Golden Eagles strung together a one-under second round to pull away from Wisconsin and CSU, who were both within six shots after the morning 18. Wisconsin finished at 16-over 592, while CSU posted a 26-over 602. The Bucs did improve by 12 strokes in the second round, accumulating a seven-over 295.

Junior Jake Ezell had the second best showing for Director of Golf Todd Selders' Bucs. Ezell recorded a second round one-under 71 to highlight his day and surge to five-over 149. Close behind with a nine-over 151 was classmate Jacques Wilson. Wilson, CSU's top finisher at last week's season-opening Sea Best Invitational, put up scores of 75 and 76 in the 36-hole tournament.

CSU will now have almost a month away from competition. Next up for the Bucs is The Palmetto in Aiken, S.C., March 6-7.
