SAVANNAH, Ga. - Charleston Southern recorded its second consecutive sweep and third win in a row on Thursday afternoon as the Buccaneers topped host Savannah State at the Tiger Tennis Courts, 7-0.
The Buccaneers swept all three doubles matches and took points on all six singles matches on their way to improving to 3-1 on the year. Savannah State fell to 0-6 in the 2017 season with the loss.
Savannah State only dressed out five on the afternoon to give the Buccaneers the singles point on court no. 6 and the doubles win on court no. 3.
Yana Morar and Valeria Koussenkova gave CSU their second doubles win of the afternoon with a 6-1 win over Rachida El Kateb and Jennyfer Vivas on court no. 2. Nicolin Luecke and Sophie Cloessner completed the CSU doubles sweep with a 6-1 win over Sandy Lochu and Lili-Morgan Pastore.
With the singles point on court no. 6 giving the Bucs the 2-0 lead, CSU made swift work on the other five courts in taking straight set wins.
Cloessner was first off the court with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Pastore on court no. 2 to give the Bucs the 3-0 lead. Koerner followed shortly after with the reigning Big South Player of the Week topping her opponent on court no. 3, 6-2, 6-1, to secure the CSU victory.
Ally Blake added a 6-0, 6-0 win on court no. 5 over Bria Burrows in her first singles action of the season. Luecke added a 6-1, 6-3 win on court no. 1 over Lochu to put CSU's lead at 6-0 over the Tigers.
Van Rensburg completed the sweep with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 win on court no. 4 over Vivas.
Charleston Southern remains on the road this weekend as the Buccaneers travel down to DeLand, Fla., and Stetson University for a non-conference match on Saturday afternoon. First serve at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center is set for 2 p.m.
