Walk-off single leads Charlotte past Charleston Southern

Charlotte, N.C. - In the bottom of the ninth, Harris Yett singled to score a run and give Charlotte (16-16) a 3-2 walk-off win over Charleston Southern (11-24) on Tuesday night.

With the game tied at two, Charlotte saw their first two batters of the ninth retied. Their next three batters singled to bring home the win for Charlotte. 

Charlotte took the first lead of the game in the bottom of the first. A home run and a two out RBI single helped the 49ers plate two runs in the inning and take a 2-0 lead.

CSU responded in the third inning when Ryan Stoudemire reached on a two out error that allowed Josh Litchfield to score. Litchfield drove in the tying run in the seventh inning on a safety squeeze bunt to bring home Josh Asbill from third.

Philip Perry (1-3) was credited with the win for Charlotte. He was perfect in the two thirds of an inning he pitched.

Ryan Stoudemire (0-5) took the loss for CSU, pitching one and one third innings and allowing one run on three hits, no walks, and one strikeout.

News & Notes

  • CSU used six pitchers in today's game and four of them made scoreless appearances. 
  • Two of Charlotte's three runs were scored with two outs.
  • Ryan Stoudemire made his second relief appearance in a game which he also played the field.
  • Wil Hartsell made his 17 appearance of the season, making him the leader in the Big South conference.
