Buccaneers score early and often in win at Hampton

Box Score

HAMPTON, VA. – Dakota Fiedler, Kayla Reese and Lauren McDonald scored three and a half minutes apart in the opening eight minutes to power Charleston Southern to a 4-0 win at Hampton.

CSU's fourth straight win moved the Buccaneers (7-8-2, 3-4-1) a step closer to clinching a berth in the Big South Tournament. The Bucs will qualify for the postseason with a UNC Asheville loss or tie tonight against Winthrop.

How It Happened
•    Fiedler wasted little time giving CSU the only goal it would need when she scored in the fourth minute. The sophomore has four goals in the last three games and five on the season.
•    It took just one minute before the Bucs struck again, this time with Kayla Reese finding the back of the net to make it 2-0.
•    McDonald scored the first goal of her freshman season in the eighth minute with Reese getting the assist.
•    CSU limited Hampton to one shot in the first half and that came in the final minute of the period.
•    It stayed 3-0 until the 65th minute when Kylie Doster tallied her fifth goal of the season to round out the scoring.

Inside the Numbers
•    The Bucs scored their four goals on only 11 shots with 10 being on target.
•    Hampton finished with six shots and four on goal, all of which were saved by Jazmin Gonzalez.
•    Fiedler led CSU with three shots, and her goal gives her a team-leading 13 points, one more than Zari Hayes.
•    Maya Andrews had six saves for the Pirates.

News and Notes
•    CSU has scored 16 goals during its four-game winning streak. The Bucs have seven games with three or more goals, the most since 2010.
•    The Bucs have won four in a row in each of the past two seasons.
•    Gonzalez has 173 career saves and needs two more to pass Molly Shawcross for seventh in school history.
•    The fifth-year senior goalkeeper has four shutouts this season and nine in her career.
•    CSU has won both games against Hampton since the Pirates joined the Big South last year.
