CHARLESTON, S.C.– The Charleston Southern volleyball team will continue their six game home stand this weekend with a pair of matches against Gardner Webb and Winthrop.
The Buccaneers knocked off the Hampton Pirates in four sets last Saturday afternoon to improve to 3-4 in Big South play. Macey LaPorte tallied a career-high 15 kills and garnered her first career double-double with 10 digs on the day.
The Bucs improve to 3-4 in conference play after going 1-1 over the weekend.
GARDNER-WEBBÂ (2-16, 0-7 Big South)
Gardner-Webb dropped both of its matchups this past weekend, both in straight sets to Radford on Friday night and to High Point on Saturday afternoon. Elizabeth Griffith led the Runnin' Bulldogs on the attack in both matches, collecting eight kills on Friday and six on Saturday. Charissa Coleman led GWU in digs with 14 in each match.
WINTHROPÂ (15-4, 7-0 Big South)
Last weekend, the Eagles went 2-0 to remain undefeated in the Big South (7-0) and at home (9-0). On Friday against fellow-undefeated High POint, Winthrop swept the Panthers. The Eagles were off to a slow start, falling into a 10-point deficit, 13-3, but managed to climb out of their hole to win the first set, 26-24. Makayla Doyle and Nikkia Benitez came up with several big kills in the final stretch. The momentum carried Winthrop through the rest of the match, winning 25-16, 25-20. Doyle finished with a season-high 14 kills with a .565 attacking efficiency. On Saturday, the Eagles needed four sets to take down the Radford Highlanders, finishing the match with a final set score of 25-9. Emily Wunder finished with a career-high 16 kills (.500).v
