Bucs Down Francis Marion in Exhibition Match

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern continued its preparation for the 2019 season with a 4-1 victory over Francis Marion in an exhibition game on Sunday at the CSU Soccer Field.

The Buccaneers scored all their goals in the second half, including the first two by Erin Rush, with Bri Robinson and Mason Pinkerton credited with the assists. Rush also picked up an assist on a goal by Pinkerton that made it 3-0, and Kat Klingensmith rounded out the CSU scoring off a feed from Kayla Reese.

Jazmin Gonzalez played the first half and was not forced to make a save. Jenna Moran was in goal the final 45 minutes and made two saves while allowing the lone Patriots' tally.

CSU held a 17-4 advantage in shots with Rush leading the way with six including three on goal. The Bucs also took six corner kicks to one for Francis Marion.

"We are a young team and have a lot of work to do, but I am very encouraged by what I've seen," said head coach Eric Terrill. "We lost a lot of leadership from last year, but our upperclassmen are stepping up and the freshmen are having an impact. I saw today what we are capable of accomplishing."

The Bucs open the regular season on Thursday with a 2 p.m. game at Jacksonville. The home opener is next Sunday at 2 p.m. against Wofford.
