CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Buccaneer volleyball team won its home opener over North Carolina A&T this Tuesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bucs have now, on back-to-back contests and it marks the sixth win in program history over the Aggies.
In the first set, the Buccaneers were led by freshman
Carsyn Starr who started the night with six kills on ten attempts.
Emilee Karelse racked up ten assists in the first set as the team recorded 13 kills total. The team tallied a pair of service aces to stretch their lead and close out the set.
In the second set, the Aggies led heading into the first timeout by a score of 7-6. Coming off the timeout, the Bucs would regroup and take a 12-11 lead following a kill by
Rachel Feggeler. The Bucs would call another timeout leading 18-14. They would extend their lead after a solo block from Cailtyn Michalski and kill from
Brooke Monssen. Monssen would finish the set with six kills alongside
Paige Reagor who finished the set with four knocks other own.
In the final set, the Buccaneers got off to a 3-0 start and Karelse would come in clutch with back-to-back aces to extend their lead to 16-14. However, the Aggies wouldn't go quietly as they took a 19-18 lead before heading into a Buccaneer timeout. Starr would come onto the court and tally three consecutive kills to give the team the lead.
Elle McFatrich entered the match and would serve up an ace to bring the Bucs to match point. After a hard effort, the Aggies would tie things up and eventually fall 29-27 after the Bucs recorded seven service aces to win the match.
