CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Southern tennis team hit the court at the College of Charleston Invitational Friday in singles play, making their fall season debut at Patriots Point.
Friday saw first and second round singles play across three flights as
Michelle Schmitz and
Liz Williams each played two matches while Anna Markvartova,
Tyler Kirk and
Femcke van Rensburg each played one match and received a bye to the next round.
How It Happened
- Michelle Schmitz competed at the A1 Singles flight Friday falling in both matches
- Schmitz battled CofC's Slade Coetzee before dropping a 6-2, 6-2 match and fell 7-5, 6-2 to Margaux Maquet from Charlotte in the finale
- CSU freshman Anna Markvartova made her collegiate debut Friday taking on Charlotte's Jenna Dean falling by a pair of 6-1 scores.
- Liz Williams was the second Buccaneer to play two matches as she dropped a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 decision then fell 6-0, 6-2 in her second time out.
- Tyler Kirk played in one match of the B1 Singles flight falling 6-1 then 6-5 (7-2) in a tiebreak.
- Femcke van Rensburg also competed in the B1 Singles flight dropping a 6-1, 6-2 match to Clara Errard from CofC.
