Tennis back in action after extended break

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The last time Charleston Southern took the court they were busy dominating USC Upstate to the tune of a 6-1 Big South-opening win back on Feb. 29 from the Buccaneer Tennis Center.

Now well-rested, the Bucs take on three opponents over a span of four days including a pair of crucial road Big South matches with Gardner-Webb and longtime rival Winthrop over the weekend. Before that, however, the Bucs host Toledo Thursday afternoon looking to improve on a 4-2 mark at home this season.

Thursday's match will be the 2nd all-time meeting between the Buccaneers and Rockets with the Bucs taking a 4-3 decision back in 2008 at a neutral venue in Hilton Head, S.C. The matchup with Toledo is also one of the Bucs' final two nonconference battles as they welcome another Mid-American Conference foe in Buffalo just six days later.

CSU then hits the road for two marquee Big South matches over the weekend beginning with a trip to Boiling Springs to take on Gardner-Webb, a team the Bucs have dominated since the 2009 season. The Bucs own the series 13-1 head-to-head and are 12-0 against the Runnin' Bulldogs all-time in the regular season including a perfect 5-0 mark on the road.

The Bucs also hold a nine-match win streak over Gardner-Webb dating back to the 2012 regular season meeting.

Just 24 hours later, the Bucs head to Rock Hill to take on longtime rival Winthrop Sunday afternoon seeking their fifth win all-time on the road against the Eagles. A Buccaneer win would also snap a three-game skid against their Palmetto State rivals dating back to the 2017 season.
