LONGWOOD, FLA.– The Charleston Southern softball team split games on day two of The Spring games, picking up a win against Saint Louis and suffering a loss at the hands of No. 11 Florida State.
On the day,
Madison Koger went 4-for-5 with a double, home run and four RBIs rounding out to hit .800 over the two game span. Against the No. 11 team in the nation, Florida State, Koger went 2-for-3 with two RBI on a double to right field.
CHARLESTON SOUTHERN 4, SAINT LOUIS 1
The Bucs fell behind in the top of the third inning when the Billikens plated an unearned run to lead 1-0. In the bottom of the fourth, the Bucs took the lead scoring four runs on four hits.
The following events led to the four runs:
- Sarah Brown singled to left and stole second on a pass ball
- Mallory Kasinger doubled to left center to pick up her 10thRBI of the year
- Anderson pinch ran and advanced to second on a groundout from Summer Moore
- Ashlyn Cribb ripped a double into right center to score a run
- Madison Koger blasted her second homerun of the year and leads the team with 11 RBI
- Bucs scored four runs in the inning and three with two outs
Annah Junge went hitless after retiring 12 straight batters upon entering the game and improved to 6-3 on the year.
FLORIDA STATE 10, CHARLESTON SOUTHERN 5
BOTTOM OF THE FIRST
- Brewington led off with an infield single in between the pitcher and third base
- Hubbard delivered a first-pitch RBI double to right center on the next pitch
- Brown advanced Anderson to third with an infield single but the Bucs would leave one stranded
TOP OF THE SECOND
- An error by the Bucs allowed FSU to plate two unearned runs and take a 3-1 lead
TOP OF THE FIFTH
- FSU tacked on three runs on four hits and one error.
BOTTOM OF THE SIXTH
- Hubbard reached on a muffed throw by the Noles
- Brown moved her over with a single to right field
- Kasinger singled to load the bases
- Cribb drew a walk for an RBI
- Summer Moore hit one back to the pitcher to plate Brown
- Madison Koger hit her second double of the year to bring in a pair of runs and cut the Noles lead to two
TOP OF THE SEVENTH
- FSU hit a three-run homerun to secure the win.
The Bucs will close out The Spring Games tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. against North Carolina A&T.
