CHARLESTON, S.C. –
Peyton Thompson had a match-high 16 kills Saturday afternoon, but Big South newcomer North Carolina A&T defeated Charleston Southern in three sets (25-18, 25-17, 25-20) inside Buccaneer Fieldhouse.
Thompson also added eight digs, while
Emma Minnick had 29 assists.
Ashleigh Holweger tied with Thompson for the team lead in digs with eight, and also had the Bucs' lone service ace of the match.
CSU jumped out to an early lead in the first set before an Aggie timeout ended the momentum. North Carolina A&T used a 10-3 run midway through the set to take control and closed with a 4-0 run to take the opener, 25-18. The Aggies used a quick start in the second set and never led by fewer than four after the early stages in the set.
North Carolina A&T continued its strong start and took a 13-3 lead to begin the third set. Thompson led a Buccaneer charge to get back in the match with six kills in the set, but the strong Aggie start proved to be too much, as the visitors closed out the win.
