ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop's balanced attack saw four players notch six or more kills Saturday afternoon, as the Eagles swept visiting Charleston Southern (25-21, 25-21, 25-16) inside the Winthrop Coliseum.
Peyton Thompson recorded her third straight double-double in the loss, finishing with 13 kills and 13 digs, both numbers that led the Bucs in those respective categories.
Paige Reagor had nine kills and hit a team-leading .368 in the match.
Winthrop jumped out to a quick start, taking a 9-4 lead in the first set. Following the Eagles' run, the Bucs never got closer than a two-point deficit in the set. CSU rebounded early in the second set, but an 8-1 Eagles scoring run turned the tide in Winthrop's favor and put the Bucs on the brink of defeat. The Bucs struggled in the third set until a late 5-1 scoring run, but by then the deficit was too big and Winthrop closed out its fifth consecutive win and fourth straight conference win.
