Bucs, Highlanders square off in first round of Big South Championships

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern soccer begins its 2021 Big South Championships run Saturday night when it takes on fourth-seeded Radford at 7 p.m.

Last Time Out
Lily McLane and Kat Parris scored six minutes apart in the first half Saturday afternoon to lead Radford over Charleston Southern, 2-0, in the final regular season game for both teams.

Jenea Knight leads the Bucs with four goals and eight points, while Emma Ryan has three goals and seven points. Katie Carnes and Erin Rush are tied for the team lead with three assists, while four different Bucs have five or more points this season.
 
Jenna Moran has started every match between the sticks this season and has 69 saves through 13 matches. Moran had a season-high eight saves in a goalless draw against Stetson and has six clean sheets this season.
 
Racking Up the Honors
Four Charleston Southern women's soccer student-athletes were honored by the Big South Conference Thursday afternoon, highlighted by junior goalkeeper Jenna Moran being named the Big South Goalkeeper of the Year.
 
Moran also earned First Team All-Big South honors, while Erin Rush was named Second Team All-Big South. Jenea Knight was named Honorable Mention All-Big South and also earned a spot on the Big South All-Freshman Team. Lauren McDonald was selected to the Big South All-Academic Team to round out the yearly honors for the Bucs.
 
Moran is the first Buccaneer to earn first team all-conference honors since 2012 and the first CSU goalkeeper to earn first team all-conference honors in program history. The yearly honors are the first career yearly awards for Moran, Rush, Knight and McDonald, and all four student-athletes are returning for the 2022 season. CSU's four conference honorees are the most for the Bucs since the 2018 season.
 
Scouting Radford
Radford enters the weekend at 12-4-1 overall and 6-3-1 in Big South Play. The Highlanders have won each of their last six matches, outscoring opponents by a 18-0 margin in the process. Radford also leads the Big South in nearly every offensive category, including goals, points, shots and goals per game, while also boasting a league-best 0.82 goals against average.
 
Kat Parris has a conference-leading 13 goals and 33 points to lead the Highlanders, while Brianna Oliver has seven goals and 18 points to rank sixth in the conference in the latter category. Lily McLane has a team-high eight assists, while four other Highlanders have at least four. Six different Radford players have recorded at least 10 points this season.
 
Lauren Seedlock has started every match between the sticks for Radford this season and has 61 saves with an 0.76 goals against average.
 
Series Breakdown
Saturday's meeting will be the 35th all-time matchup between Radford and Charleston Southern. The Highlanders have a 23-6-5 advantage in the series and are 21-0-5 in the last 26 meetings between the schools.
 
The Bucs and Highlanders met to close the regular season this year, with Radford winning that match in Charleston, 2-0.
 
Coming Up on the Schedule
The winner of Saturday's match will play regular season champion Campbell Thursday night at 7 p.m. in Buies Creek.
