CSU opens 2021-22 slate at home against Johnson & Wales

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern men's basketball opens the 2021-22 slate Tuesday night when it faces the Johnson & Wales Wildcats inside Buccaneer Fieldhouse at 7 p.m.

Familiar Faces
Charleston Southern returns three of its five starters from a season ago, as well as their guard duo that missed last season due to injury. Ja'Quavian Florence's mark of 10.3 points per game leads the way for the returners.
 
Deontaye Buskey and Travis Anderson both make their return to the floor for the Bucs as well after season-ending injuries kept them from action a season ago.
 
New Faces
CSU's roster is made up of nine newcomers, many of which will see valuable minutes throughout the year. Transfers include junior forward Cheikh Faye, junior forward Imajae Dodd and sophomore guard Tahlik Chavez.
 
Kalib Clinton, Claudell Harris Jr., Taje' Kelly, Tyler Schaafsma, A.J. Hamrick and Jacob Shadders lead a strong newcomer class.

Charleston Southern was picked to finish eleventh in the Big South Preseason Poll.
 
Scouting Johnson & Wales
Johnson & Wales is led by the scoring duo of Zyrion Wilkins and Anthony Ray, as both are averaging 17.0 points per game or better. Wilkins adds a team-high 8.5 rebounds a game as well.
 
Collin Irby averages 13.0 points per game and Fred Patterson adds 12.0 points per game to round out the Wildcat scoring.
 
The offense is and up-and-down type system, with points coming quickly for the Wildcats. Johnson & Wales is averaging 90.0 points per game on over 40% shooting from the field. On the flip side, the defense is allowing 78.0 points per game, and a shooting clip of just under 40%.
 
The Wildcats eclipsed the 100-point mark in their season-opening win, but were held to just 79 points in their loss.
