Ashley Meckley, Charleston Southern softball earned a split in a doubleheader with Cleveland State Saturday afternoon from CSU Softball Field.
Charleston Southern (1-1) fell in the first game of the day 4-3 in eight innings then took down Cleveland State (2-4) 2-1 in the finale as
Holly Clark went the distance striking out six Viking batters. The Bucs' 2-1 victory in the second game comes as the first for head coach
Christi Musser at the helm who took over before the 2021 season.

Game 1 | Cleveland State 4, Charleston Southern 3 (8 Innings)
- Charleston Southern broke a scoreless tie with a three spot in the second inning as Sarah Brown and SeaEanna Satcher each has RBI's in the frame
- Cleveland State responded two innings later in the fourth with three runs of their own highlighted by Taylor Duncan's two-run double
- Annah Junge pitched 4.0 innings for the Bucs surrendering three runs, all earned, while recording a strikeout and a no-decision
- Alyssa Heinrich tossed the final four frames taking a hard-luck extra inning loss allowing just the one run
- Cleveland State took advantage of the runner beginning the extra frame on second as Courtney Fernette doubled to right center for the 4-3 advantage
Game 2 | Charleston Southern 2, Cleveland State 1
- Senior pitcher Holly Clark went the distance pitching 7.0 innings of one-run ball while striking out six Viking batters
- Ashley Meckley hit a two-run blast in the second inning, her first of the season, providing Clark all the support she would need
- Clark would go on to earn her first win of the season outdueling Cleveland State's Taylor Betz
- Coach Musser earned her first win as a Charleston Southern head coach
