CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern men's golf team will be back in action this upcoming week as the Buccaneers make the trip to the Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, S.C. for The Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate.
The two-day, three-round event will include 54 holes of stroke play with the teams playing two rounds on the first day followed by one final round on the second day.
Eight teams are currently among the field, including Big South rival Presbyterian.
CSU is coming off their first tournament win of the 2021 spring season as the Buccaneers topped the field at the Pinnacle Bank Intercollegiate prior to the program going on pause due to university COVID protocols.
The Bucs (+7) topped Augusta (+9) by two strokes over the final round as the teams battled through the final 18 holes. CSU and Augusta were both tied at +1 through the first 36 holes played on Monday, but the Bucs utilized strong closing rounds by Parker Jones (-1), Jake Carter (Even), Ben Carroll (+2) and Tyler Beeck (+5) to secure their first team win since the 2018-19 season.
Carroll (5th) and Jones (T-7th) both recorded top-10 finishes in the tournament, while Carter (T-11th) was also in the hunt throughout the final day of competition.
The Bucs' secured their first win since the 2019 Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate when CSU rallied back to erase an 11-stroke deficit in the victory. This time around, CSU led from start-to-finish on the golf course with the players shooting a combined eight rounds of par-or-better in the two-stroke win.
CSU will be utilizing the same lineup as head coach Jason Payne announced his five starters that advanced through qualifying rounds over the past week. Beeck, Carter, Carroll, Jones, and Alan Smith will take on the field for the Bucs in the event.
