Junge, Cribb lead Bucs to series-opening win over Longwood

FARMVILLE, Va. – Ashlyn Cribb hit a pair of solo home runs and Annah Junge threw a complete game Saturday afternoon, as Charleston Southern defeated Longwood on the road, 4-1, in the series opener between the two sides.

Junge struck out a season-high four, allowing just one run on six hits and one walk while throwing 99 pitches in 7.0 innings. Cribb's two homers both went to left field and came in her final two at-bats, which were in the fifth and seventh innings.

Brooklynn Brewington, Madison Koger and Erika Cooper each had hits for the Bucs, in addition to Cribb's two-homer game.

CSU took an early lead in the first inning when an errant throw on a sacrifice bunt allowed both Brewington and Katelyn Norris to score.

Longwood pushed a run across in the third on an RBI single, but that was the only run the Lancers would score all game. Junge kept Longwood's hitters off balance throughout the game, scattering six singles while getting eight flyouts and eight groundouts in addition to her four strikeouts.

Cribb restored Charleston Southern's two-run advantage in the fifth when she sent a 1-2 pitch over the wall in left field for her first home run of the season. The Bucs had a chance to extend their lead later in the inning, but stranded runners at first and second.

The Bucs extended their lead to 4-1 in the seventh when Cribb led off the inning with her second solo home run to left field, this time on an 0-1 pitch. Longwood got the leadoff runner on in the seventh with a walk, but Junge retired the next three batters she faced to close out the series-opening win.

Aside from the lone run that scored, no Lancer baserunner got past second as Junge managed to consistently get timely outs and limited hard contact.
