Second-half surge sends Charleston Southern past Presbyterian

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Emma Ryan and Madisen Mitchum netted goals in the second half Wednesday afternoon, leading Charleston Southern to a 2-0 win over Presbyterian at the CSU Soccer Field.

Katie Carnes assisted on Mitchum's goal, while Ryan's goal was unassisted off a rebound. Jenna Moran made six saves in net for the Bucs, who outshot PC by a 23-9 margin.

Neither side had much of an offensive attack in the first half, with the Bucs managing just four shots to PC's three. The Blue Hose had the best chance in the first half, but Moran shut down a breakaway attempt by Kori Lawrence.

CSU took a whopping 19 shots in the second half and managed to capitalize on a pair of close-range efforts. Ryan's goal came just 10 minutes into the second half, as she took advantage of a rebound from a Jenea Knight shot that was misplayed by the goalkeeper.

The Bucs upped the pressure after scoring the opener and struck for a second late in the half. Carnes played a perfectly timed pass to Mitchum, who had no trouble slotting home from close range for her first career goal. The helper was Carnes' team-leading third of the season.

Moran stood tall in goal and made a pair of highlight-reel saves for her second clean sheet of the season.
