Opening Tip
• Charleston Southern is coming off a thrilling win over High Point at home Wednesday night with a
Tahlik Chavez trey with four seconds left and a handful of freethrows from
Deontaye Buskey to close it out.
• The two sides did not see each other last season. The last meeting dates back to Feb. of 2020, when USC Upstate won 66-52. It was the first win for the Spartans in the last six meetings between the two sides.
• Charleston Southern looks to make it six of the last seven against the Spartans. The 10-2 all-time record for the Bucs against USC Upstate stands as the best of any other Big South opponent.
•
Tahlik Chavez came up big for the Bucs last time out, finishing with a team-high 17 points, but none bigger than the go-ahead three with just under five ticks left to give CSU its first Big South win on the season.
• The Bucs continue to get major production from their talented freshman class, as
Taje' Kelly finished with 12 points and eight boards,
Claudell Harris Jr. added 13 points and
Kalib Clinton chased down four offensive boards in just over 10 minutes against High Point.
• The Bucs are just 1-7 away from home this year, with the lone win coming over Tarleton State back in early December. The trip to Spartanburg will stand as a big one for Charleston Southern as it looks to build on the 70-66 win over High Point earlier in the week.
• Upstate is coming off an impressive win over rival Gardner-Webb to bring the Spartans' Big South record to 4-1 early on.
