Gardner-Webb Spoils Big South Opener at Buc Dome

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern men's basketball dropped its Big South opener to Gardner-Webb inside Buccaneer Fieldhouse Wednesday evening, 88-63, behind a strong showing by guard Lance Terry. Terry's 20 points led the way for the visitors as Tahlik Chavez and Claudell Harris Jr. stood as the only Bucs in double-figures.

IT TAKES A SQUAD
Charleston Southern tallied 41 bench points in tonight's contest, ten more than Gardner-Webb. The Bucs have scored at least 35 points off the bench on five different occasions, with three of those coming in the last four contests.

EARLY SUCCESS
Claudell Harris Jr. has now scored in double-figures in three-straight games after leading the Bucs in scoring through the Cobb Dill & Hammett Classic before the break. Tahlik Chavez also found double-digits for the seventh time on the year, tying him with Kalib Clinton for the most on the team.

NOT AT FULL STRENGTH
Wednesday's contest marked the sixth time this season the Charleston Southern was not at full strength, as games against Clemson, Kennesaw State, Jacksonville, Manhattan and South Carolina State were played with at least one starter out due to injury. Senior Sean Price missed his second-straight contest due to injury.

LINEUPS APLENTY
With sophomore guard Emorie Knox getting the start for the Bucs, the number of unique starting lineups on the season grows to eight. Knox's start marks his first of his sophomore campaign after starting 15 of 21 games a season ago.

On the flip side, Deontaye Buskey made his team-high 13th start of the season and stands as the only Buc to start every contest on the year after missing the entire year a season ago due to injury.

UP NEXT
The Bucs hit the road for their first Big South game away from home as they travel to Asheville, North Carolina to take on the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville. Tip is slated for 4:30 at Kimmel Arena.
