The Charleston Southern volleyball team got a win on the road on Saturday as they defeated the Presbyterian Blue Hose in four sets. Presbyterian won the first set; however, the Bucs (11-11, 4-4) came back with three straight victories to take the set.
In the first set, the Bucs jumped out to a 15-11 lead on the Blue Hose, but that lead would soon evaporate as Presbyterian went on a 7-1 run to take an 18-16 lead. After three straight service errors by the Blue Hose tied it at 22, they scored the final three points to take the first set 25-22.
In the second set, the Bucs dominated out of the gate, going on a 10-2 run to start it off.
Skylar Yates and
Peyton Thompson both had two kills each during that run. Despite a comeback effort from Presbyterian, the Bucs used a 4-0 run to take the lead and ultimately win the set 25-18.
Despite falling behind early in the third set, the Bucs found a way to win 25-16 and take the lead, outscoring the Blue Hose 14-6 to end things. Five different Bucs had a kill en route to the victory.
The Bucs used a 7-1 run in the fourth set to guide them to a dominate 25-13 fourth-set victory. During that run,
Madison McNally and Thompson both had two kills. Then, they scored the final four points to take the and take the match to get back to .500.
Yates was the leader in kills for the Bucs today with 22, and fellow freshman IIaria Durante led the way with 45 assists on the afternoon.
Julia Fledderjohn had 19 digs and
Angelika Rusin had six aces.
The Bucs will be back in action next Thursday, October 20, at 6 p.m. when they travel to Bules Creek, NC to take on the Fighting Camels of Campbell. They are back at home next Saturday for a 2 p.m. match with the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs.
