The Charleston Southern volleyball team was swept by the High Point Panthers in their match on Friday night, falling 25-21, 25-20 and 25-21 at the Buc Dome. With the loss, the Bucs fall to 11-14 (4-7) on the season.
Jyriah Morgan had nine kills and Emily Struckmeyer had four blocks.
Angelika Rusin also had 17 digs in the contest.
Set one started with a 5-0 run by the Panthers before the Bucs called a timeout. Charleston Southern would fight back and make this a two-point match thanks to
Emilee Karelse. With the score 18-12, the Bucs went on another 4-0 run ending with a kill by Morgan, but they were outscored 7-4 to end the set.Â
Charleston Southern jumped out to a 3-1 lead in set two, as Giada Pais-Marden started the set off with two kills. The Bucs kept the lead for a portion of this set, but the Panthers went on a 6-1 run to take a 14-11 lead. Despite cutting the lead to 21-19 with a service ace by Morgan, the Panthers once again went on a run, outscoring the Bucs from that point forward 4-1.Â
Set three was a back-and-forth battle as well, with the Bucs jumping out to a 3-2 lead with a kill from Madison McNally. They never trailed in this set by more than four points, but were unable to go on a run. It got close when they cut the Panther lead to 18-17 thanks to two attack errors by High Point, but once again, they could not overcome another Panther run, as back-to-back kills ended the match.
The Bucs are back in action on Saturday, as Radford comes to the Buc Dome for a 2 p.m. match. This game will be aired on ESPN+.
