VolleyBucs Defeated in Big South Tournament; Season Comes to a Close

HIGH POINT, N.C. – In the semi-final round of the Big South Tournament, the Charleston Southern VolleyBucs were swept by the Campbell Camels on Saturday, losing in three sets.

Set One
After jumping out to a 6-4 lead, the Bucs surrendered a 9-2 run by the Fighting Camels, who led the attack and forced a CSU timeout.

Out of the timeout, the Bucs tried to make a comeback as they received kills by Indigo Young, Jyriah Morgan and Giada Pais-Marden. A service ace by Emilee Karelse made it 23-21 and forced another timeout by the Fighting Camels. It was not enough though, as Campbell scored the final two points to take the set 25-21.

Charleston Southern had 47 attacks and 10 kills in the set, including three from Morgan and Skylar Yates.

Set Two
Campbell carried the momentum into the second set, jumping out to a 6-0 lead before a Peyton Thompson kill put Charleston Southern on the board.

Later in the match, the Fighting Camels went on a 7-0 run with three straight services aces and three- straight attack errors by the Bucs to make it 23-9. Despite a late run by CSU, they went on to lose set two 25-12 to fall behind 2-0.

Set Three
It was a back-and-forth battle to start the set, with Charleston Southern jumping out to an early 9-7 lead.

The Fighting Camels went on a bit of a run though, using a 10-1 run to take the lead 17-10. The Bucs cut the lead to 23-18 with a both a service ace and kill by Angelika Rusin. The Camels went on to score the final two points to win the set 25-19, completing the sweep.

Roundup
Yates led the way with nine kills; Young, Pais-Marden and Morgan each contributed five. Young finished with a hitting percentage of .286, and Yates finished with two service aces.

With the loss, the Bucs' season comes to a close. Including the conference tournament, they finished with a record of 15-16 (8-9 in the conference). They were the first team to make it to the semi-final round of the Conference Tournament since 2010.
