CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern men's golf will get its spring tournament campaign underway Monday and Tuesday as it travels to Hilton Head for the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate, an event play hosted by Francis Marion.
QUICK GLANCE AT THE FALL
The Buccaneers competed in four fall tournaments, the last of which was one they play hosted – the Daniel Island Intercollegiate, Oct. 31-Nov. 1. CSU's top team finish came at the season-opening Graeme McDowell Intercollegiate, as it placed 10th, but at the home event, it slotted in the middle of the team leaderboard.
INDIVIDUALLY SPEAKING
Ben Carroll and
Alan Smith went toe-to-toe for the lowest stroke average on the squad in the fall, as Carroll edged his teammate 73.36-to-73.42. Both players shot at least one round in the 60s, including Carroll's team-best 66 during the second round of the Carolina Collegiate Invitational.
Ethan Willis, playing in his first season with the program as a transfer, produced two Top 25 finishes and carded a 68 in his first round of the fall on his way to a 2-under 214 at the Graeme McDowell Intercollegiate, tying Smith in the clubhouse as the top Bucs scores.
Caleb Loudin,
Griffin Tarver and
Colin Trahan all saw action in three events apiece, adding depth to head coach
Jordan Jeffers' lineup.
REPEAT SUCCESS?
The last time Charleston Southern lined up in Hilton Head was for the 2021 Pinnacle Bank Intercollegiate at the Palmetto Hall Plantation to begin last spring's competition. The Bucs captured the team title, tallying a 7-over par aggregate for the two-stroke triumph over Augusta and securing the first team crown since the 2018-19 season.
